HEY THERE, I'm Maura!

Hi there, I’m Maura! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, originally from rural Pennsylvania. I received my Bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Maryland, where I studied psychology and criminal forensics. I went on to earn a Master’s degree in Mental Health and Wellness from New York University. Living in New York City for several years post-graduation provided me the opportunity to practice in a variety of diverse community mental health settings. I am licensed to provide therapeutic services in Colorado, Utah, and New York.

My clinical experience of over a decade consists of providing assessment and diagnosis, crisis intervention, stabilization, case management, and short-term and long-term treatment in wilderness therapy, correctional settings, inpatient and outpatient facilities, college counseling, and private practice and coaching. Clients of all ages, races, genders, religious backgrounds, and sexual orientations have walked through my door. Throughout my career, I have partnered with several private practices, providing individual, couples, and group therapy services to teenagers and young adults, and adults. The clients I have served have faced different mental health and emotional issues, such as PTSD, Psychosis spectrum, ASD, addiction, anxiety and depression, personality disorders, OCD, and suicidality and self-harm. Throughout the COVID-pandemic, I provided trauma-based psychotherapy services to the adult male and female incarcerated individuals at Riker’s Island Correctional Facility. Most recently, I worked at Open Sky Wilderness, utilizing the healing power of nature to foster growth, healing, and connection within families.

My belief is that all individuals have the capacity to thrive. My personal values of connection, creativity, humor, playfulness, learning, and adaptability have been a guiding force in my work, and I strive to help others identify what is meaningful in their lives.

I value and understand the intricacy of family systems and the importance of collective healing from past trauma. In my work, I bring a flexible and curious approach infused with self-accountability and feedback. I am a trauma-informed therapist and am certified in EMDR. I have extensive training in somatic experiencing and Post-Traumatic Somatic Growth Therapy. Mindfulness and movement, art therapy, internal family systems, DBT, rational emotive behavior therapy, and strengths-based interventions can also be experienced in my work with clients.

I am a creative and outdoorsy type! In my free time you can find me making pottery in my home studio, hiking, ballet dancing, practicing yoga, writing poetry, exploring cooking, connecting with loved ones, and playing instruments.
